Film Project Genre Research - Prison Break

In the first two minutes of Prison Break, the main character Michael is viewed from an over the shoulder shot of him getting a full tattoo over the top half of his body. The scene starts off with a black screen that fades into a two-shot of the tattoo artist and Michael. A hand-held shot was used with incidental music playing in the background adding a sense of questioning to the scene. There is a brief dialogue where Michael's last words are " I don't have a few years, wish the hell I did" , establishing that something big is going on in his life. The scene is cut to a wide shot view on a crane of the city, establishing the place and time of when he left the tattoo shop. It is then cut to the inside of his apartment with an insert shot of origami which is then focused back to Michael walking at a fast pace to the other side of the room. He starts to clear newspapers off his desks and window, then in insert shot of a murder case shows for a considerable amount of time. The scene continues with insert shots of different newspaper articles about crimes and honorable individuals in the community. The scene then cuts to him walking out to the balcony with the hard drive of his desktop. A close-up view of Michael then switches to an eye-line match when he throws the hard drive into a lake. The scene consisted of incidental music, intensifying the severity of the situation he's in. The scene then cuts to the next day in the afternoon to the outside view of a bank. The final scene is of Michael shown from a wide shot shooting a gun in the air, demanding the worker to open the vault. The cost to produce each episode was about 2 million. The show made about $750k per episode with Wentworth Miller making $175k per episode. This show has been nominated for a multitude of awards such as the Golden Globe Award for Best Tv Series and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.
