Creative Critical Reflection Question #4

How did you incorporate technology in the process?    Identify specific technology aspects you utilized and how you used them. For example, what model camera/camera phone did you use and at what setting? Graphic design or video editing software and what functions did you use? The use of technology through our film was evident and important in successfully producing our short movie. The camera was an aspect that helped in making the film feel real to our viewers. The film was recorded on an iPhone 7 and although it doesn't have the same effects as a high-end camera, the quality was good enough to produce our film. The editing tools used were available on the latest version of Adobe Premiere. It was available on our school computers which made it convenient for my team members and I to edit and perfect our film to the best of our ability. The main character was also driving a car during the film. The use of the vehicle was to exemplify the hurriedness of the situation...

Creative Critical Reflection Question #3

Throughout the process of producing and creating our film, I've learned an abundance of new information about the digital distribution industry. In the beginning, my group members and I had entirely no clue on how to create a film and incorporate different camera shots and editing techniques. As of now, we're still learning how to incorporate different techniques to make a film but have made great progress. During our first filming session, we had difficulty due to the lighting and the location in which we filmed. To fix this, we considered using artificial lighting to enhance the quality of the shot, but that only gave a sloppy look to our film. We completely cut out the artificial lighting and realized the natural lighting gave a more edgy and tense look. This helped our film tremendously and made the film more relatable to the viewers. The process of choosing the character for our film was difficult. We wanted to find someone who could best fit the profile of our main char...

Creative Critical Reflection Question #2

How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text? Our film engages with the audience through the use of social media such as Instagram. The form of advertising is commonly used as our audience is active on different social media platforms. This allows us to gain direct information from our viewers on how excited they are about our film or any questions they have about it. Its a great way to spread the word on the release of our film and has been used for many films such as The Hunger Games, Zoolander 2, and many other action pact films. Our film would be distributed through different digital platforms such as Netflix. Our audience, which consists of a majority of teenagers, uses this popular platform to watch all sorts of movies and TV shows either directed and produced by Netflix and or classics such as Riverdale and Big Mouth. Another form of digital distribution that we'd use would be Amazon Prime. It is a family-friendly platf...

Creative Critical Reflection Question #1

How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? Our film represents society through its use of a teenager's perspective. Ordinarily, a male is often the represented gender that is found to be around and allocating illegal drugs to make a source of income. The theme of the film revolves around the distribution of drugs in the United States through the hands of an innocent teenager whose idea of making money is corrupted and defaming to him and what society portrays him to be. The social class that is represented through the drug dealer in our film was a teenage boy named Gio in an upper/middle class with a family who is partly disconnected from him. Gio often goes against what is right because of the influence of others and how the dealing of drugs is perceived through the eyes of teenagers in this modern age. He is a follower and wants to fit in with individuals who often find themselves in trouble and continue to rebel. The ...

Don't Breathe ( 2016 )    Don't Breathe is a horror thriller that shows three thieves and their journey through what seems like hell. The target audience is similar to those of our film The Rise because the suspense conveyed throughout the film and the sense of fear the viewers obtain as the film cuts from different scenes. Methods of digital distribution used for this film are DVD, Amazon Prime, and Blu-Ray.    The use of DVD would be the best method of distribution to use because of the ease and simplicity that comes with it. The movie was produced and directed between US and Hungarian territory. In many countries, digital distribution hasn't modernized and the use of DVD players is prevalent. To allow for easy-access movie viewing, providing out audience with a DVD copy would benefit them the most.

Glass ( 2019 ) Glass is a a psychological superhero thriller that exhibits the skills and capabilities of three masterminds that have been admitted into a mental hospital. The films action packed plot is similar to that of our film because its get the adrenaline rushing through veins and excitement at each cutting edge scene. Different methods of digital distribution used consist of Amazon Prime, DVD, and On Demand. On Demand would be a great method of distribution for this film. On Demand is a easy and family-friendly distribution system that allows access to video entertainment without the restraints of television scheduling and commercials. The movie preceding the film could also found on On Demand and can allow for families to watch from the beginning and understand the true meaning behind each and every character.  Glass is a film that can be enjoyed with family and friends and On Demands allows for simple film viewing.

Joker ( 2019 ) Digital Distribution The movie Joker was a phenomenal film that exhibited the lonely and odd world of a mentally ill man's journey through the city of Gotham as a dejected sadist. The methods of digital distribution used for this film range from Google Play, Fandango, YouTube, and Amazon Prime. Amazon prime is a subscription service that allows its users access to services such as music and movie streaming. The use of this distribution method would be beneficial in our film product because it is a widely used platform by families. Our target audience would avail from this method because of the accessibility and being able to purchase and keep the film. Our group can incorporate this distribution method for our product by advertise through social media platforms such as Instagram and highlighting the benefits that Amazon Prime has and the quality that it exudes. We want our viewers to have the best quality best when viewing our film a...

Traditional Distribution Research

Most viewers love going to the movies and having the traditional movie experience, however, prices have risen only due to the rise of prices for movie tickets. Truthfully, the amount of tickets being sold is on a negative trajectory due to the increase in use of streaming services and on demand viewing of movies. This has resulted in a change in the traditional method of film distribution, companies  have found many ways to work around this and profitably distribute their films. VOD One way to distribute your film and still make a good profit is to release it onto Video on Demand. VOD is one of the main reasons movie theaters are not as profitable, therefore many small films will be released in theaters and video on demand at the same time or similar times. This has been successful for films such as Snowpiercer, that made $4 million in theaters and $7 million through VOD. Streaming Services Streaming services such as Netflix will make films available for streaming on t...

Audience Engagement Research

Image
The Drug King How and why the target audience is similar to this film The Drug King is a film about a young Chinese novice who rose to the top of the Japanese  Drug Cartel.  Our film is similar to this because it about the upbringing of a novice drug dealer in the city of Sarasota trying make it in the drug world. The target audience is similar to this film because the viewers are looking for a thriller/action movie that’ll get blood pumping and adrenaline rushing. How did they market their product? The film " The Drug King " use of marketing was through trailers on YouTube and other video streaming sites. This was the best way to market the film because it allows viewers to get a first glimpse of what the film is all about. What persuasive techniques were used? Basing the film on the true story of an aspiring drug leader in 1970s. The viewers are around the age in which the novice was building his empire so it shows that life choices that many individuals ...

Marketing Plan

For our film " The Rise " , similar to that of Get Out, The Joker, and The Drug King, we plan on marketing our movie through social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. We plan on make a cover photo for our film and plaster it all over social media to push it out to people around the bay area. We've decided to create a poster as our visual for the movie. We decided this would be the best way to visually advertise our films because the simplicity and the creativity that we can put into making our film look entertaining and inviting. We decided a website wouldn’t be the best way to advertise our film because it wouldn’t attract viewers since social media is the more popular choice when it comes to advertisement. The same goes for print media and emails where they would be overlooked which wouldn’t build the attraction we want for our film.

Art of the Title Class Activity

Image
The Zodiac ( 2007 ) Mystery/Crime Today in class, we analyzed some title sequences from ArtoftheTitle.com. I considered the film "The Zodiac" to be the best film directed that was shown in class. The mystery thriller illustrated the hustle and bustle of the city of San Francisco and the life of a struggling father/cartoonist at the San Francisco Chronicle. The summary that the website gives illuminates the killings that have come about in a busy city. The idea of showing the the everyday struggles of a man working at the chronicle emulates the strenuous tasks he goes through and will encounter throughout the film. In comparison to my film, the idea of adding different cuts of the city of Sarasota would be nice to show how busy that day is and the quiet and peacefulness of the night; to show that as the day dies, the night brings out the felonious behavior entrapped in the lives of many, many like Giovanni in our film, " The Rise . "

Feedback and Revisions

We received primarily positive feedback on our film after presenting it to the class. However, there were some glaring issues that we must fix; -The movie length -The Mis-en-scene, costumes To fix these issues we are going to re-shoot the movie, due to Tyanna wearing clothes that didn't make sense for her character, we were unable to simply edit the movie to lower the run-time. Hence why we will re-shoot the entire movie, except this time we will all be in better costumes and have more improved and better looking camera shots. We will cut out unnecessary scenes that pro-long the film, to cut the movie down to 2 minutes rather than 3. These changes will improve the film by making it a more concise and more visually appealing product.

My Target Audience

Target Audience Age: 17 and older Gender: Male and Female Geography: The United States Income level: All income levels Education level: The audience should have somewhat of a high school education Maturity level: They must be mature Our movie will most likely be rated R, this is because of the mature themes that will be included in the movie. While we are selling candy, which in the real world is not illegal, in the world of our movie, it is. The distribution of illegal substances is not the only mature theme in our movie, there is also violence in the movie, another mature theme that will restrict our movie to only 17 years of age and older, younger audiences can see it, but only with an adult. Our movie is not made for any specific gender, therefore males and females can see the movie and find enjoyment in it. Although certain aspects of our film are inspired by other cultures, for example the Italian name, our  movie is based in and culturally American. While ...

Use of Conventions

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions of your genre? Our product uses conventions of our genre. Things such as the use of a handheld camera and non-artificial lighting portray the film as being realistic, other films in the genre also do this.  These are conventions that are used regularly in the genre. We also used the appearance of Rhianna’s character as comic relief, this is done in the genre to help breakup the seriousness of the films. 2. How does it represent social groups or issues? Social Groups: Our movie represents three main social groups; the dealer, the consumer, and the innocent. Shawn and Tyanna's characters both represent the dealers. They both sell candy and are primarily focused on gaining more money and power. While Connor's character represents the consumer, a person who is centered on buying candy and nothing else. Meanwhile, while short, Rhianna's character's appearance in the film symbolizes those unrelated to the inte...
